Noise pollution is killing wildlife in Tulum

Tulum was open to parties while most areas were closed, but the local ecosystem has been severely affected by human influence.

Wildlife experts warn that noise pollution is killing wild animals in the jungle. The abundance of regional parties and electronic music festivals, mostly centered in Tulum, are the main reasons.

Dr. Yann Hénaut, head of the Biodiversity Conservation department at El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (Ecosur), Chetumal Unit, explained that high noise levels from events in the area directly affect birds and mammals. As a result, some species were forced to relocate.

“Generating noise in natural areas causes a serious impact, although we cannot know it, animal species such as birds, monkeys and other mammals feel their territory invaded and migrate to other places. These are things that we do not perceive but that are happening, and it is something very unfortunate, because we affect the environment,” he told The Yucutan Times.
